History

The Westfield Half started in 1994 when a group of runners from the Empire One Running Club approached the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Westfield with the idea of a half marathon fundraiser. Since then, we have seen the Westfield Half grow from 142 to well over 600 runners. In 2011, there were nearly 1,000 participants! We have also added a 10K, 5K run/walk race and children’s race as well. Since that first race 23 years ago, this event has raised nearly $200,000 for the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Westfield.

Oleksak Lumber has been our main race sponsor, and they have donated their time and lumber to make our one-of-a-kind handmade finisher MEDALS (Woods) which are shown below.
Over the last 23 years, the Westfield Half has offered men’s and women’s cut technical t-shirts, chip timing, GU packs, certified course, port-a-potties, showers and a post race buffet of sorts. Runners also have the opportunity to run a rural, scenic half marathon course. Many beginner runners have started on the 5K course and accepted the challenge of completing the Westfield Half. Whether you are preparing to tackle your first half marathon or trying to better you personal record, the Westfield Half offers a challenging, friendly and fun run for a great cause.
