The Club Art Studio is an entire room dedicated to Boys & Girls Clubs of America's core program area, "The Arts". The brightly decorated space provides members with professional quality art supplies. Our Fine Arts Coordinator, Jocelyn, holds a bachelors degree in arts education.
Members are welcome to come and go from the Art Studio during open hours. Our Studio Coordinator organizes and implements a new project every day after school and during school vacations. Covering everything from painting, drawing, and collage; most of the daily activities are geared toward the National Fine Arts Program, allowing the children to work year round at building their confidence and nurturing their developing skills as young artists while experimenting with color theory and the elements/principles of design in a calm, dedicated space.
National Fine Arts:
National Fine Arts is a year-round program that encourages artistic expression among Club members ages 6-18 through drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, mixed media and sculpture displayed at local and regional exhibits. A panel of distinguished local artists judge art pieces and select winners that are then submitted to the National Fine Arts Exhibit. Winners of the national contest have their work displayed throughout the year at BGCA events, including the annual National Conference. Each winning work is featured in a virtual gallery on BGCA's website .
Members ages 10 and up meet weekly to create large scale works of art. The program focuses on the technique and process of mural creation, from a small sketch all the way through enlargement and painting the murals on to the walls of the Boys & Girls Club. Mural Club is an opportunity for members to leave their mark on the Club forever!
Teen Paint Night:
On Wednesday nights, Jocelyn hosts a guided paint night for teens. Club members can participate for free, and non-Club members can join in for just $2. All supplies are provided and each participant leaves with a complete painting.
