Boys & Girls Club Staff Receives National Award
Teen Outreach Coordinator, Ashlie Brown, recently received the honor of being named Boys & Girls Clubs of America Northeast Region's "Outstanding Youth Development Professional". This annual award, entitled the A.D. "Archie" Mangini Award, recognizes exceptional Boys & Girls Club professionals who contributes to a caring, safe and fun Club environment by providing one-on-one informal guidance and planning, developing and implementing high-quality programs for members.
All those who know Ashlie confirmed if anyone deserved this honorable award she was definitely the right choice.
"I've watched Ashlie grow up in this Club, first as a youth member and now as a significant member of our staff," said Lerryn Godden, business manager. "She is involved in every aspect of the Club. I constantly see her go out of her way to help other staff members and she is always volunteering her time at special events."
Ashlie views this award as proof that the hard work staff members put into their jobs every day makes a difference in the lives of the children who attend the Club.
"It's really wonderful that awards like this exist to recognize staff for everything they do to make the Club both an educational and fun place for youth members. You do this job for the kids and just hope you're making a lasting positive impact on their lives."
In her current position as Teen Outreach Coordinator, Ashlie has doubled teen memberships and daily attendance while organizing and implementing new programs offered specially for adolescents. Not only have coworkers, board members and BGCA noticed Ashlie's dedication to her job but most importantly it's the teen members who appreciate the way she's enhanced the senior games room.
"She does so much for us and I hope she knows how much everything she does means to the teens," said Monica Iglesias, 15. "Ashlie always takes the time to talk to us about our problems and bring us on different field trips. If it wasn't for the Club and Ashlie I would never have been able to go to half of the cool places they take us. I'm really happy she got this award."
